About Me

Broadcast Journalism

Hi! I'm Karson Schroeder, a Sophomore at Spring Arbor University in Jackson, Michigan. Mountie Nation Station, my high school's broadcasting program, has been very vital to my love for broadcasting. In 2021, I was named director of our program, which accelerated my career aspirations. Since then, I've wanted to work in broadcasting. I seek expertise in Broadcasting/Video Production in order to obtain hands-on experience. I consider myself extremely fortunate to be a multi-award winning high school Broadcast student. Receiving  Michigan Interscholastic Press Association and Michigan Association of Broadcasting awards, as well as recognition from other local companies and establishments. Along with these accomplishments, I maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout high school and a 3.997 in College.

Aside from my journalism endeavors in school, I have explored a variety of other endeavors, including my current position as Creative Media Director for the Spring Arbor University Men's Basketball team. In addition, I have worked as a freelance videographer and photographer, as well as a production intern for JaxNaz Church, and multiple internships in the journalism field. This has opened my eyes to the future of journalism and offered me a career path I want to pursue.

At Spring Arbor, I am also heavily engaged in athletics and the arts. I have played guitar for four year and am now a part of our chapel band at SAU. Not only do I love the arts, but I also am a part of the Men's Tennis Team at Spring Arbor. Tennis has always been a passion of mine and it is truly a dream come true to get to play the sport I love at the next level.

LEADERSHIP

"The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things." --Ronald Reagan

A great leader is someone who has a positive impact on others. Even if they are not the best or most experienced journalists, they always do what is best for people around them. From 2020-2023, I've had the privilege of serving as the director and leader of our Broadcasting Program, Mountie Nation Station. While I constantly try to help others, I also try to put myself in their position and let them grow with my assistance. My leadership in journalism has moulded me into the leader I want to be in the future, whether it's offering critiques on competition work, assisting with editing techniques, or simply hanging out with individuals outside of school to provide a friendship for everybody. I know that the media-specific abilities I developed will not be the only thing I can say I gained from my journalistic experience.
